Background of the Study

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are a vital part of the economic development in Nigeria, especially in regions like Wukari LGA. However, many SMEs face challenges in terms of growth and sustainability due to poor financial management practices. Managerial accounting provides SMEs with the tools to make informed decisions, optimize costs, improve efficiency, and enhance overall performance. This study will explore how managerial accounting practices contribute to the growth of SMEs in Wukari LGA.

Statement of the Problem

SMEs in Wukari LGA often struggle with cash flow management, cost control, and pricing strategies. Many of these businesses lack proper managerial accounting practices, which hinders their growth and ability to compete effectively in the market. This study aims to assess the role of managerial accounting in addressing these challenges and fostering sustainable growth for SMEs in Wukari LGA.

Aim and Objectives of the Study

Aim: To examine the role of managerial accounting practices in promoting the growth of SMEs in Wukari LGA.
Objectives:

  1. To assess the use of managerial accounting practices in SMEs in Wukari LGA.
  2. To evaluate the impact of these practices on the financial performance and growth of SMEs.
  3. To identify challenges SMEs face in implementing effective managerial accounting practices.

Research Questions

  1. To what extent do SMEs in Wukari LGA adopt managerial accounting practices?
  2. How do managerial accounting practices influence the growth and financial sustainability of SMEs in Wukari LGA?
  3. What challenges hinder the effective use of managerial accounting practices in SMEs in Wukari LGA?

Research Hypothesis

  1. H₀: Managerial accounting practices do not significantly contribute to the growth of SMEs in Wukari LGA.
  2. H₀: There is no significant relationship between the use of managerial accounting practices and financial performance in SMEs in Wukari LGA.
  3. H₀: Challenges in implementing managerial accounting practices do not significantly affect the growth of SMEs in Wukari LGA.

Significance of the Study

This study will provide valuable insights into how managerial accounting practices can help SMEs in Wukari LGA improve their financial management and support their growth. The findings could help policymakers, business owners, and financial consultants understand the importance of managerial accounting in driving SME success.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

This study will focus on SMEs operating in Wukari LGA. Limitations may include challenges in accessing detailed financial data or reluctance among SMEs to disclose their financial practices.
